WHAT IS MENTOR COACHING?

FOR COACHES SEEKING ACC OR PCC CREDENTIALING...

If you are pursuing your ACC or PCC credential through the International Coaching Federation, mentor coaching is more than a requirement to complete. It is an opportunity to become a more skillful, grounded, and confident coach.

My approach to mentor coaching is thoughtful, direct, and developmental. We will review your coaching through the lens of the ICF Core Competencies, paying attention to what is working, what may be limiting the coaching, and what adjustments could help you coach with greater clarity, presence, partnership, and depth.

This is not a cookie-cutter process. You bring your own voice, temperament, experience, strengths, and habits into coaching. While honoring those traits and qualities, we will work to sharpen your coaching skills so that you may better serve your clients.

WHAT WE WORK ON...

In mentor coaching, we may focus on:

  • Staying in coach position rather than advising, teaching, or rescuing.

  • Creating clearer agreements and session focus.

  • Listening more deeply for meaning, emotion, patterns, and possibility.

  • Asking cleaner and more evocative questions.

  • Allowing silence and spaciousness.

  • Partnering with the client rather than working harder than the client.

  • Strengthening your use of the ICF Core Competencies.

  • Preparing for the level of coaching expected for ACC or PCC credentialing.

WHAT MENTOR COACHING IS—AND IS NOT...

Mentor coaching is focused on developing your coaching competence in alignment with the ICF Core Competencies.

It includes reviews of recorded coaching sessions, competency-based feedback, reflection, and practical skill development.

Mentor coaching is not supervision, business coaching, or general life coaching.

While broader professional questions may arise, the central focus remains your development as a coach.

ICF REQUIREMENTS...

ICF requirements vary by credential level and application path. As of current ICF guidance, many ACC and PCC candidates who need mentor coaching must complete 10 hours over a minimum of three months, including at least three individual hours.

You are responsible for confirming the current requirements for your credential path directly with ICF before beginning mentor coaching.

IS THIS A GOOD FIT?

This mentor coaching may be a good fit if you want feedback that is honest, careful, practical, and encouraging – supportive without being vague, direct without being harsh, and grounded in the coaching competencies rather than in personal preference.

MY QUALIFICATIONS...

I have held the PCC credential since 2016 and have coached professionally since 2013. I have also spent many years teaching with the Professional Christian Coaching Institute, where I have taught both introductory and advanced coaching courses designed to prepare students for ACC and PCC credentialing.

Over the years, I have served as a mentor coach for more than 50 ACC and PCC candidates. I have completed ICF’s ACC BARS Training and PCC Marker Training, which allows me to offer feedback that is clear, specific, and grounded in the competencies and markers used to assess coaching at each level.
